Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for unwavering commitment to deepening reforms and expanding high-standard opening up, urging Guangdong Province to lead the way in advancing Chinese modernization. During his inspection tour of Guangdong, Xi emphasized the province's importance as a pioneer and pacesetter of China's reform and opening up, and highlighted its outstanding role in Chinese modernization. He urged the province to comprehensively deepen reform, promote high-standard opening up, boost China's self-reliance and strength in science and technology, modernize its industrial system, and promote balanced development between urban and rural areas and regions.
Xi also emphasized the need to ensure food security in China, a country with a population of over 1.4 billion, during his visit to a mariculture base in Zhanjiang. He called for elaborate efforts to develop the breeding industry and to develop deep-sea aquaculture equipment and smart fishing industry, while also urging further upgrading of marine fishery. Xi stressed the importance of persistent efforts towards green development to build a beautiful China and contribute to the preservation of the global environment.
During his visit to Xuwen Port, Xi emphasized the role of the Qiongzhou Strait as a vital gateway to the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, calling for the upgrading of Xuwen Port into a modern, comprehensive hub of water and land transportation that connects the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hainan Free Trade Port. Xi also visited a reservoir that is part of a water diversion project in Guangdong and called for China to take issues related to water resources into consideration when pushing forward modernization.
In the city of Maoming, Xi visited a village known for growing lychees and called for enhancing technologies used in lychee cultivation, preservation, and processing to boost the sector and culture-themed tourism. He stressed the need to comprehensively advance rural revitalization and effectively address the imbalance between urban and rural areas and between regions to advance Chinese modernization. Xi also visited LG Display's manufacturing base in Guangzhou and expressed hope that foreign investors will seize opportunities and achieve greater business success by coming to China, particularly Guangdong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Xi emphasized China's commitment to reform and opening up and its readiness to collaborate with any nations interested in engaging in mutually beneficial cooperation to advance shared prosperity and development of the global economy. He also stressed the significance of the real economy and self-reliance for a country as big as China, calling for core technologies in key fields to be based on independent research and development while welcoming international cooperation. Xi urged China to strengthen education and talent cultivation to lay a solid foundation for self-reliance and strength in science and technology.
