III. Industry and Construction
Industrial production increased steadily. In 2016, the total output value of industrial enterprises above the designated size in Changzhou reached 1.22669 trillion RMB, up by 8.5% over the previous year. In line with provincial statistics standards, the value added of these enterprises grew by 8%. Of all the industrial output value, the output value of heavy-industry enterprises and light-industry enterprises above the designated size stood at 943.09 billion and 283.6 billion RMB, up by 9% and 8.3% respectively. All the seven major industry sectors registered a year-on-year growth. In terms of the industrial output value of the seven sectors, the electronics, machinery, chemistry, construction, textile & garments, metallurgy, and bio-medicine sectors reached 73.54 billion, 489.24 billion, 211.95 billion, 36.17 billion, 103.25 billion, 197.5 billion, and 28.5 billion RMB respectively, up by 12%, 9.8%, 9.4%, 8.8%, 7.1%, 6.6% and 1.5% respectively. In addition, corporate performances improved. Revenues generated by primary business of the enterprises above the designated size and their profits hit 1.24414 trillion RMB and 73.07 billion RMB, up by 9.2% and 14.5% respectively.
The ten major industrial chains continued to progress. In 2016, the aggregate output value of industrial enterprises above the designated size in the ten major industrial chains grew by 9.5% to 421.27 billion RMB, accounting for 34.3% (one percentage point higher than that of 2015) of the city’s total output value of industrial enterprises above the designated size. Moreover, the output value increase of these enterprises accounted for 36.7% of that of industrial enterprises above the designated size. Among the ten major industrial chains, the output value of the rail transportation sector dropped by 2.8% to 40.02 billion RMB; that of the automobile & parts surged by 31.1% to 87.31 billion RMB; that of the agricultural and engineering machinery sector increased by 4.9% to 57.73 billion RMB; that of the PV sector climbed by 8.4% to 69.08 billion RMB; that of the carbon material sector grew by 14% to 8.65 billion RMB; that of the new medicine sector increased by 5% to 43.2 billion RMB; that of the new lighting sector climbed by 8.1% to 11.16 billion; that of the general aviation sector surged by 30.5% to 2.27 billion RMB; that of the smart grid sector grew by 2.1% to 74.37 billion; and that of the smart CNC and robotics sector increased by 11.8% to 27.47 billion RMB.
The construction sector slowed down. In 2016, the construction output value of local construction enterprises fell by 1.2% to 127.34 billion RMB. The floor space under construction decreased by 7.7% to 92.362 million m2 and the floor space completed increased by 3.7% to 35.752 million. The per capita productivity of the construction sector fell by 2.8% to 277,000 RMB/person (calculated by the total construction output value).
