In the first half of the year, the manufacturing sector in Changzhou accounted for 44.2 percent of the city's GDP, marking a 1.1 percentage point increase from the end of 2022 and ranking first in Jiangsu province. Several factors contributed to this achievement:
Robust development in the new energy industry: Manufacturers above the designated size achieved a total output value of 340.87 billion yuan, showing a remarkable year-on-year growth of 24.8 percent. Notably, the production of new energy vehicles (NEV) surpassed 270,000 units, experiencing a significant growth rate of 130.2 percent, while the output value surged by 170.3 percent. The EV battery industry also witnessed strong growth with a 25.9 percent increase in output value compared to the previous year.
Sustained growth from emerging industries: Around 200 enterprises achieved a substantial year-on-year increase of 36.8 percent in output value, contributing an additional 78.91 billion yuan in production value. This represents 1.7 times the growth of value-added of the city’s industrial enterprises above designated size.
Strong support from strategic projects: A total of 374 industrial projects related to Changzhou’s "532" development strategy accomplished overall investment of 65.57 billion yuan across the city. This accounted for 69.9 percent of this year’s planned investment, exceeding the scheduled progress by 19.9 percentage points.
These positive indicators demonstrate Changzhou's strong industrial performance and its focus on developing new energy industries and fostering emerging growth points. The city's commitment to the "532" development strategy has driven significant investments and contributed to its leading position in the province's manufacturing sector.
