On the morning of October 28, the UL Changzhou Traction Battery Testing Laboratory was put into operation in Wujin National High-Tech Zone (WIZ), Changzhou. Liang Yibo, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and vice mayor of Changzhou Municipal People’ Government, attended its opening ceremony.

Underwriters Laboratories, also known as UL, is an independent product safety certification organization founded in 1894. As a top-class testing and certification services provider in the world, UL has set up over 230 facilities in 113 countries and regions. Last May, UL and WIZ signed an agreement to establish a testing center within the industrial zone, with an investment of 178 million yuan in the first step -- a testing lab for large-capacity batteries. The lab covers a construction area of 13,000 square meters, which will serve to test a variety of products across the traction battery industrial chain, ranging from battery cells, battery packs to battery systems.

The inauguration of UL Changzhou Laboratory will help intensify Changzhou’s strength in the auto testing and certification industry domestically, accelerate the development of WIZ’s smart vehicle industrial cluster and its brand awareness, and extend Changzhou’s industrial chain for new energy vehicles and their core parts.

At the inauguration ceremony, representatives of UL issued certificates to Shanghai E-propulsion Auto Techonology Co., Ltd. and Aptiv Shanghai, and signed agreements with Beijing Electric Vehicle Co.,Ltd. and Great Wall Motor Company Limited.
