Last year, 6,703 students in Changzhou decided to stay following their graduation, according to data released by the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau on Tuesday.

The figure, a record high in recent years, is 34.27 percent higher compared with 2021.

“I like living in this city, and more importantly, it has a bright future. It’s lucky to find a great job here,” said Zhang Kaixuan, who graduated from Jiangsu University of Technology (JUT) and currently works at Changfa Agricultural Equipment Company.

According to Jiang Jing, who is in charge of student work at JUT, the university has paid great attention to talent retention work. They invited local companies to participate in campus recruitment and introduced the latest talent policies to students.

In 2022, a total of 823 JUT graduates chose to work in Changzhou, a surge of 48.02 percent from the previous year.

Apart from universities, the colleges and vocational schools in Changzhou have also made similar efforts, and they provided about 61 percent of the students who stayed in Changzhou.

“Higher education institutes in Changzhou have always been a talent pool for us, as their graduates tend to stay here and have knowledge and skills needed by the company,” said Zhu Keqing, HR specialist at CALB.

“Stay in Changzhou” is a program launched by the local government to retain young professionals. This year, more activities will be carried out through the program to attract young people to stay and work in the city.
