On December 18, the 500kV Changzhou Pingwu gas-insulated transmission line (GIL) constructed by Jiangsu Ankura Smart Transmission Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., passed the examination after 72 hours of trial operation. This marks the successful commissioning of China's first GIL for grid transmission.
According to experts, the gas-insulated transmission line (GIL) is a system for the transmission of electricity at high power ratings over long distances. In cases where overhead lines are not possible, the GIL is a viable technical solution to bring the power transmitted by an overhead line underground without a reduction of power transmission capacity. Since they hardly impact on the landscape, and their minimal electromagnetic radiation means they can also be used close to, or even within buildings, GIL can be considered for a wide range of applications.
The project started construction on August 15 this year, which was jointly contracted by Jiangsu Ankura and the Jiangsu Electric Power Design Institute of Power Construction Corporation of China. Jiangsu Ankura was responsible for the line design, equipment supply, pipeline construction, telecommunications engineering, intelligent monitoring, fire protection and equipment installation.
