From June 8th to 13th, Erin Markle, Director of Buffalo China Sister City Affairs, paid a visit to Changzhou. The purpose of her visit is to discuss about the proposal of establishing a Buffalo Cultural Village in Changzhou. Du Jibin, director of Changzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office (CZFAO), and Du Wenping, deputy director of CZFAO, met with Markle in the Administration Center.

On the afternoon of June 10th, more than 10 representatives from the city’s cultural and art sectors attended the seminar organized by CZFAO, during which Markle briefed Buffalo’s current plan and on-going investigation, and conveyed the support of Buffalo City Council about this project. The representatives of Changzhou’s side raised their opinions and suggestions on some specific issues to be taken into consideration at this stage. Going forward, the two sides will keep in touch and carry on field research on this project, and will report in detail to Changzhou Municipal People’s Government.

During her visit in Changzhou, Markle had a discussion with the president of Shengyudu Primary School and the representatives of Changzhou Junior Sports School about initiating a Summer Martial Art Exchange Program. She visited the former residence of Ding Boren, one of the founders of Menghe Medical School, and learned about the history of Menghe Medical School from Gu Shuhua, director of the Jiangnan Ancient Architecture Studies Institute. Gu expressed his willingness to participate in the Cultural Village project and to promote in Buffalo the traditional Chinese medicine therapy of Menghe Medical School. Besides, Markle visited Xinpin Tea Farm in Jintan and Yuzhi Tea Farm in Liyang, and discussed on the possibility of cooperation in tea supply and marketing. She also visited Master Song Chun of Tianning Temple and talked in details about Buddhist cultural exchanges and cooperation.
