Premier Li Qiang held a news conference on Monday at the end of the annual meeting of the National People's Congress, where he met with reporters from both domestic and international outlets.
The Premier outlined several key highlights of the new government's focus, including prioritizing the people's aspirations for a better life and promoting high-quality development. He also emphasized China's commitment to continuing to deepen reform and opening up.
Regarding the economy, Premier Li expressed confidence in China's economic outlook but stressed the need for redoubled efforts to achieve the 2023 GDP growth target. He also highlighted institutional strength as an advantage for China's economic development.
On the topic of Hong Kong and Macao, Premier Li affirmed that the Central Government will fully implement the policy of One Country, Two Systems.
He also discussed the private sector, emphasizing that China will continue to support private enterprises according to market-based and law-based standards, with private enterprises enjoying a better environment and broader space for development.
Regarding employment, Premier Li stated that China will continue to pursue an employment-first strategy and increase government support to boost employment. He also noted that China's rich supply of human resources remains a notable strength.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, Premier Li declared that China's COVID-19 response has been completely right and highly effective. He added that China has adjusted and improved its COVID response measures and will strengthen medical services.
Regarding Taiwan, Premier Li emphasized that Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are members of one family, and he called for joint efforts to restore normal exchanges across the Straits.
On rural vitalization and food security, Premier Li stated that the country's rural vitalization drive will focus on the ecological, social, and cultural aspects of the countryside, in addition to promoting economic growth. He also assured that China's food security is well guaranteed.
Premier Li also discussed opening up and China-US ties, stating that opening up is a basic State policy for China and that the country will stay firmly committed to pursuing this policy. He also highlighted the need to translate China-US consensus into policies and actions and expressed that China and the US can and must cooperate.
Finally, Premier Li outlined four key tasks to strengthen governance.
