Today, on International Women's Day, Xu Jiefen, a distinguished senior agronomist at the Jiangsu (Wujin) Rice Research Institute, has been bestowed with the prestigious title of "Jiangsu's Most Beautiful Female Striver." This recognition, conferred on March 7, underscores Xu's exemplary commitment and contributions to the field of agricultural science.

Since completing her master's degree, Xu has been at the forefront of rice variety breeding and agricultural technology promotion at the grassroots level. Over a span of 16 years, she and her dedicated team have tirelessly endeavored to develop rice strains boasting high yields, resilience to diseases, and superior quality. Their meticulous efforts involve the annual evaluation of over 20,000 breeding materials, culminating in the creation of more than 20 novel rice varieties. With a cumulative promotion area exceeding 30 million mu (approximately 2 million hectares), Xu's impact on rice cultivation is both profound and far-reaching.

Among their illustrious achievements is the development of Wu Yun Jing 21, a groundbreaking variety that has successfully tackled the scourge of rice stripe virus (RSV) disease. Furthermore, Wu Jing 15, Wu Yun Jing 24, and Wu Yun Jing 27 have been officially recognized as super rice varieties by the Ministry of Agriculture, with an annual promotion area exceeding 2 million mu (about 133,333 hectares). Additionally, their high-quality rice cultivars, including 5245, 7375, and 113 from the Wu Xiang Jing series, have received resounding endorsement from the Jiangsu Provincial Agricultural Technology Promotion Station, emerging as preferred choices among large-scale growers.

The remarkable achievements of Xu's team have garnered widespread acclaim, earning them accolades such as the prestigious first prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, among others. Xu herself has been repeatedly honored, clinching the "Outstanding Individual in Jiangsu Province for Technology Transfer, Service, and Income Increase" award for three consecutive years, in addition to being recognized as an Outstanding Director of the Jiangsu Rice Industry Technology System.
