The 16th Changzhou Games opened on May 7th at the stadium of the Changzhou Olympic Sports Center. Chen Jihu, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, declared the Games open, while Sheng Lei, mayor of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, gave an opening speech. Bai Yunping, director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony.

Starting at 9 a.m. to the tune of a stirring entrance march, the 14 delegations representing Liyang, Jintan, Wujin, Xinbei, Tianning, Zhonglou, Changzhou Economic Development Zone, as well as the city’s youth, colleges, vocational schools, workers, farmers, seniors, and communities showcased the vibrant spirit and impressive appearance of Changzhou's people and industries.

In recent years, Changzhou has vigorously developed people-centered sports programs, adhered to promoting public health through mass fitness, added luster to the overall picture with its regional highlights, and demonstrated its urban charm through sports events.

In her speech, Sheng Lei expressed her hope that all athletes would strive to achieve excellent results, all judges would fulfill their duties with fairness, all workers and volunteers would strive for perfection and attentive service, and all of them would work together to offer the people of Changzhou a frugal, enthusiastic, exciting, and innovative "sports feast."

The 16th Changzhou Games feature seven different sports, including 110 events in total, with participants ranging in age from five to 75 years old. It covers all regions, people, and life stages and is expected to attract over 60,000 participants. The Games will continue until October.
