A farewell to 2014 with an outstanding ‘transcript’ of the year

During the year of 2014, Changzhou has attained outstanding achievements in economic and social development.

Firstly, the economy achieved a steady growth. Changzhou’s GDP totaled about 475 billion yuan, up around 10%; fiscal revenue reached 43.3 billion yuan, an increase of over 6%; fixed asset investment achieved 330 billion yuan, increased by about 16%; total retail sales of consumer goods made 180 billion yuan, a rise of around 13%; import and export volume amounted to 28.7 billion U.S. dollars, of which the exports grew by 5% with a total volume of 21.4 billion dollars.

Secondly, industrial restructuring made rapid progress. Changzhou ranked first throughout Jiangsu Province in index for development of projects for transformation and upgrading. In 2014, the city introduced more than 150 entrepreneurial projects through the Longcheng Talents Program, and a Nobel Prize winner set up his workstation in Changzhou for the first time.

Thirdly, vitality was increased through reform and opening up. For two years in a row, 157 administrative approval procedures have been further simplified. The duration of approval process for industrial projects was shortened by above 1/3, and that for government-invested projects was reduced by nearly 40%. In 2014, 18,256 private enterprises and 44,624 individual businesses were newly registered, up 35.5% and 15.1% respectively.

Fourthly, urban and rural areas achieved coordinated development. The programs of ecological green city and national forest city has achieved tangible results. Changzhou accomplished all the tasks of energy saving and emission reduction issued by Jiangsu Province. The Changzhou Section of the Grand Canal became the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Changzhou. The level of agricultural modernization moved up to the third place in Jiangsu.

Fifthly, the wellbeing of people was further improved. The per capita income of urban residents rose by 9.3%, while that of rural residents grew by 10.5%. 13,500 new jobs were created in 2014, and the pensions for enterprise retirees increased for the tenth consecutive year. The number of awards of the national Five-One Project (including a good book, a good TV program, a good play, a good movie and a good article) ranked first among prefecture-level cities. The city’s public security program called ‘Ping’an Changzhou’ was further promoted, due to which the citizens’ satisfaction with the legal system was high to 94.38%.
