Changzhou launches city-wide public access defibrillation program
Font:〖L M S

Changzhou has initiated the public access defibrillation program to help save lives in the event of cardiac health emergencies requiring the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The program launched with the deployment of 405 AED sets across the city by the end of 2021, including 100 in Liyang, 30 in Jintan, 50 in Wujin, 100 in Xinbei, 58 in Tianning, 47 in Zhonglou, and 20 in Jiangsu Changzhou Economic Development Zone.

As of this update, 375 AEDs have been installed throughout the city. The My Changzhou app features an interactive map that will help you find the nearest AED.

It is reported that approximately 550,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest -- a medical condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating -- in China each year. Early defibrillation, along with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), is the only way to restore the victim’s heart rhythm to normal in a lot of cases of cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation, however, the chances of survival decrease by 7–10%. AEDs are a vital link in the chain of survival and are the only proven way to resuscitate a person who has had a cardiac arrest.
