This year, September 5 marks the sixth China Charity Day. On September 3, the Charity Donation Day was unveiled at the Changzhou Administrative Center, ushering this year’s Charity Month to the city. Municipal leaders, including Chen Jinhu, secretary of the CPC Municipal Committee; Bai Yunping, chairman of the municipal CPPCC and Dai Yuan, secretary of the Party Leadership; attended the donation ceremony. All government departments and agencies took part in the donation, raising a total of 4.112 million yuan.

In Changzhou, the Charity Donation Day has been held for 15 years in a row. Officials in the government take the lead in the fundraising activity, along with wide participation from all walks of life, which has made the event well-known.

At the ceremony, the municipal leaders stressed that the culture of philanthropy should be promoted in the government, enterprises, communities and schools alike. The following Charity Month offers an opportunity to explore activities of various forms and shapes. The online charity events, in particular, will expand channels for fundraising. In addition, supervision will be carried out in accordance with the Charity Law and Jiangsu Regulations on Charity to improve the credibility of charitable organizations.

The Changzhou government has always attached importance to the cause of philanthropy. It has strengthened policy support, explored new models and new carriers, and built a vibrant ecosystem for charity. The city's charity societies have collected and pledged a total of 3.015 billion yuan of charitable funds, and helped 1.867 million people with various difficulties, including students, orphans, the disabled and the elderly. A total of 1.397 billion yuan of various relief funds has been distributed to people in need. The city has taken the lead in Jiangsu in launching the supplementary medical insurance for serious illness, and developed charity supermarkets as well as other charitable brands.

Philanthropy plays an important role in the fight against poverty and the battle against COVID-19. For four consecutive years, Changzhou has ranked among the top 100 Philanthropic Cities in China and is one of the top ten prefecture-level cities in this regard.
