A new high-speed railway, connecting Nanjing and Shanghai, commenced operations today, extending the rail transport network within the Yangtze River Delta.

The railway expands Jiangsu's total railway mileage to over 4,500 kilometers, including more than 2,500 kilometers of high-speed track, making it one of the country's longest rail networks.

Covering a distance of 278.5 kilometers, the railway boasts a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour and serves eight stations: Nanjing South, Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Taicang.

This launch marks the fourth railway line between Shanghai and Nanjing and is the second intercity rail line. Initially, there will be ten daily train trips, with the possibility of adjustments based on passenger demand.

Furthermore, the railway construction and service prioritize sustainable development and incorporate distinct cultural elements.

In recent years, Jiangsu has been diligently expanding its rail network, with approximately 1,000 kilometers of railway lines currently under construction.
