SVOLT announced on July 19 that its battery laboratory successfully developed China’s first batch of 20Ah sulfide-based all-solid-state prototype batteries.  

Headquartered in the Jintan district of Changzhou, SVOLT said the new series of cells can realize an energy density of 350-400Wh/kg and has sailed through a slew of tests like nail penetration and high temperature (200°C). The mass-produced cells can provide an electric vehicle with a range of over 1,000km.

Unlike the commonly used lithium-ion and lithium-ion polymer batteries, solid-state batteries significantly increase the energy density of lithium batteries by using solid electrodes and electrolytes.

According to SVOLT, this laboratory is dedicated to developing manufacturing technologies for sulfide electrolytes and relevant separators, as well as for sulfide-based solid-state batteries.

In April 2021, the laboratory was inaugurated together by SVOLT's Wuxi Lithium Battery Innovation Center and Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS.

Last year, SVOLT recorded annual sales of over 4.6 billion yuan, of which its R&D spending constituted 19 percent, ranking among the top power battery makers.
