China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in collaboration with four government bodies, has launched a nationwide campaign to bolster the adoption of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in rural areas. This year’s program kicked off on June 14 in Menghe town, Xinbei district, Changzhou, drawing significant attention. The event showcased over 50 automotive brands and charging infrastructure companies, offering consumers the latest discount models and an extensive array of NEVs.
The theme of this year's campaign, "Empowering New Life, Enjoying New Mobility," combines exhibitions, sales, and conferences to meet rural residents' car-viewing and purchasing needs. It aims to bridge the NEV adoption gap in rural areas, promoting green and safe travel while supporting the development of beautiful, revitalized rural communities.
For the fourth consecutive year, the NEV rural promotion has begun in Jiangsu province. Since 2020, Jiangsu has led the way with an innovative "six-in-one" service model that includes vehicle sales, charging infrastructure, discount policies, financial services, maintenance, and e-commerce live streaming. This approach brings the concept of green travel and its associated benefits directly to the public.
At the launch ceremony, 2023 NEV sales data for Jiangsu was revealed, with Suzhou, Changzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, and Yancheng leading the province in sales.
Changzhou is a hub for leading NEV manufacturers like Li Auto and BYD. In 2023, the city reached a GDP milestone of one trillion yuan, with its NEV sector contributing 140 billion yuan and producing 678,000 vehicles. Hosting the inaugural event of the 2024 NEV campaign in Menghe highlights the city's pivotal role in the industry.
All participating NEV dealers at this year’s event have announced substantial discounts on their popular models.
Following the event in Menghe, Jiangsu will organize nearly 30 additional NEV roadshows to stimulate local consumption and further boost the province's NEV industry development.
The campaign is co-hosted by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce.
