Recently, the Changzhou Science & Technology Progress Award 2014 has been announced. A total of 78 scientific and technological achievements were awarded first, second or third prizes.

Currently, there are approximately one hundred million people with diabetes, of which about one million people are taking pancreatic kallikrein produced by Changzhou Qianhong Biopharma Co., Ltd. This medicine is composed of glycoproteins extracted from pig’s pancreas, which is one of the major drugs for treating diabetic complications. High-quality heparin, another product of the company, is extracted from pig’s small intestine, which is the drug of choice for prevention and treatment of thromboembolic disease.

Qianhong Biopharma, in cooperation with Nanjing University for over a decade, has achieved industrialization of the above-mentioned two innovative drugs. Since they were put into production three years ago, the company has reached total sales revenue of 2.5 billion yuan, profits of 450 million yuan and exports of more than 200 million US dollars.

Eight scientific and technological achievements, including the pancreatic kallikrein and high-quality heparin produced by Qianhong Biopharma, the waste oil clean production of bio-diesel and bio-plasticizers developed by Jiangsu Yueda Kate New Energy, etc., were awarded the first prize.

This year, a total of 169 programs were recommended as candidates of the Science & Technology Progress Award, and 78 of them were awarded in the final round, including 55 items in the industrial category, 18 items in the social sector, and five items in agriculture.
