On the morning of June 18, United Auto Battery System Co., Ltd. and United Auto Battery Co., Ltd., joint ventures of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (known as CATL) and SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of their lithium-ion battery project in Liyang High-Tech District. 

Chen Jinhu, secretary of CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of the board of CATL, and Wang Xiaoqiu, president of SAIC Motor, attended the ceremony.

The project, having a total investment of 12 billion yuan, is the fifth 10 billion project invested by CATL and SAIC Motor in Changzhou. Completing construction in 2024, the facility will have production lines for battery cells and packs. 

Settled within Liyang High-Tech District, the project will boost Liyang’s development towards the top lithium-ion battery production base across the country and even the world.
