On October 18th, Min Yuan Li No.1, the only historic cultural yard in downtown area, was officially open to the public. It becomes Changzhou’s new name card of cultural exchanges.

In the afternoon, the exhibition of Master Xu Beihong’s works was opened at Min Yuan Li No.1. Vice Mayor Fang Guoqiang attended the opening ceremony. It is also the grand finale of the serial exhibitions of the works of modern masters. These exhibitions are part of this year’s ‘Culture 100’ event to benefit the people.

Xu Beihong was the founder of China’s modern arts, and an outstanding painter and art educator. He was good at painting figures, beasts, and flowers and birds. He was especially world-famous for painting horses. Xu Beihong, Zhang Shuqi and Liu Zigu were called ‘Nanjing’s Three Genius’ in painting circles. Yixing’s Xu Beihong Museum offered 37 pieces of works. Among them, 17 are Xu’s original works, including calligraphy, ink and wash, water color, and oil painting. They fully present the true qualities of the Master.

The same day, Min Yuan Li No.1 was also officially open to the public. The buildings bear Changzhou’s profound historic culture. They consist of five culture relic protection units, namely Prince Zhi’s Palace, Zou Hao’s Memorial Hall, Min Yuan Li Residence, Ji Mei Hall of Zhuang Family and Private School of Zhuang Family.

Currently, besides the exhibition of Master Xu Beihong’s works, Min Yuan Li No.1 has also organized exhibitions such as the special exhibition of the copies of China’s longest book series The Si Ku Quan Shu (Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature), photography exhibition of Intoxicating Beauty in Jiangnan and exhibition of Huang Shanshou’s calligraphy and painting works. New cultural formats like ‘the first 24-hour self-service library in Changzhou’s urban area’ and ‘Changzhou’s first crowd-founded bookstore Study No.1’ have been introduced.
