Recently, Mayor Yao Xiaodong investigated the development of biotechnology and new pharmaceutical industry in Changzhou. He stressed that Changzhou should largely develop the biotechnology and new pharmaceutical industry and build it to be the pillar industry of Changzhou as soon as possible.
　　Changzhou has 42 pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises, 260 medical equipment manufacturing enterprises, 16 pharmaceutical wholesale enterprises, and thousands of medicines and medical equipment retail businesses. The sales revenue of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry exceeded 10 billion yuan in the first half of the year, an increase of 22%. China Changzhou International Medical Equipment Center located in West Taihu Lake International Medical Industrial Park has started construction. The investment in first-phase project reaches 2 billion yuan. Recently, more than 90 medical equipment wholesalers have settled in the center.
