Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced the list of National Demonstration Counties for New-Type Urbanization. Liyang was the only county-level city in southern Jiangsu selected into the list.

Counties are an important part of China’s industrialization and urbanization and integrated urban-rural development. Accelerating the advancement of new urbanization, especially by making up the shortcomings exposed during the COVID-19 epidemic, will deliver both short- and long-term benefits. The list released by NDRC this time includes 120 counties or county-level cities of 24 provinces in the east, midwest, and northeast China, 10 of which are in Jiangsu province.

Going forward, Liyang will implement the requirements of NDRC on new urbanization in an effort to expend public utilities and healthcare facilities and foster new industries.
