Recently, the South Jiangsu National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone released the lists of 13 unicorn companies and 454 gazelle enterprises for the year 2020, according to which Changzhou owns two unicorn and 76 gazelle enterprises.

One of the unicorns is China Lithium Battery Technology Co., Ltd. (CALB), a high-tech enterprise specializing in R&D, production, marketing and operation of lithium ion batteries, battery management systems and energy storage projects. Having established an R&D base with 1,700 professionals, this year CALB achieved 100% increase in traction battery installation, with a planned capacity of 200 GWh yearly, taking the lead in China.

Unicorn companies refer to those founded within 10 years whose estimated value surpassed $1 billion. Most of these enterprises are in the vanguard of their industry, leading the way for the generation of new technologies, business activities and business models.

A gazelle enterprise refers to an enterprise that has overcome a depressing time and entered a fast-growing period. These enterprises showcase features such as fast growth, strong creative ability and great potential.

Since 2017, Changzhou has got a total of two unicorns, 15 potential unicorns and 215 gazelles in the South Jiangsu National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone. Going forward, Changzhou will continuously improve its business-friendly environment with an innovative, sustainable ecosystem to nurture a number of word class enterprises.
