On February 26, the 2024 Changzhou-Shanghai Trade, Investment, and Innovation Cooperation Week kicked off with a New Year Reception, bringing together over 200 representatives from various sectors in Shanghai. Sheng Lei, deputy secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, delivered a keynote address.

In her speech, Sheng expressed heartfelt gratitude to officials from foreign consulates-general in Shanghai, entrepreneurs across industries, and individuals from diverse backgrounds who have long contributed to, supported, and engaged in Changzhou's development. She emphasized Changzhou's consistent recognition of the Shanghai metropolitan area as pivotal to its development momentum. With Changzhou reaching a significant milestone of one trillion yuan in GDP, the city is poised for a new chapter, characterized by enhanced enthusiasm, anticipation, vitality, and confidence in fostering collaboration and exchanges with Shanghai.

This enthusiasm springs from Changzhou's enduring industrial journey, marked by steadfastness and gradual progress. Presently, Changzhou is accelerating the development of its "1028" industrial system, focusing on key sectors like next-generation power batteries, compound semiconductors, artificial intelligence, hydrogen energy storage, and synthetic biology. With robust synergy and close collaboration between the industries of both cities, Changzhou aims to seamlessly integrate into Shanghai's industrial chain, thus propelling both cities' industries towards the pinnacle of global industrial and value chains.

Anticipation is fueled by Changzhou's commitment to innovation and embracing change. The city is steadfastly advancing the "New Long March" of science and technology, fast-tracking the establishment of the Yangtze River Delta Industrial Technology Innovation Center. Leveraging Shanghai's concentration of research institutions, diverse talent pool, and dense financial landscape, Changzhou eagerly anticipates deeper collaboration in technological innovation, industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and internationalized scientific and technological services.

Vitality emanates from Changzhou's dynamic openness and proactive engagement. Currently, the city is actively embracing the new development paradigm, expanding its openness, nurturing its headquarters economy, and striving to establish itself as a city with the most favorable business environment nationwide. As Shanghai stands as an internationally connected metropolis, Changzhou eagerly looks forward to further expanding its collaboration with Shanghai, delving into comprehensive, multi-domain, and novel forms of international economic and trade cooperation.

Confidence stems from Changzhou's continual progress on its developmental journey. The city is actively coordinating the development of the Twin Lakes Innovation Zone, the construction of the High-Speed Rail New Town, and the revitalization of the old downtown area. Changzhou, as a modern city harmoniously blending culture with nature and tradition with modernity, welcomes friends from all walks of life in Shanghai to witness its developmental pulse, actively participate in its journey, and share in its achievements.

At the event, the Changzhou Business Environment Guide was unveiled, further solidifying the city's commitment to cultivating a market-oriented, rule-of-law-based, and internationally renowned business environment across various dimensions.

The event also witnessed the signing of contracts for 25 major projects, totaling over 28 billion yuan in investment, spanning fields like new energy, integrated circuits, and synthetic biology.

Notable figures, including Adachi Yasuo, director and general manager of Yaskawa Electric (China) Co., Ltd., Paul Sheng, chief executive officer of Saint-Gobain China, and Wang Jianyu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and professor of the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of CAS, and Liu Xiaoning, partner and chief operating officer of Matrix, delivered speeches. They all expressed confidence in Changzhou's favorable business environment, highlighting its focus on fostering new quality productivity and generating fresh development momentum, further cementing their commitment to investing and developing in Changzhou.
