Changzhou Metro Group Co., Ltd. has introduced an update to its official app, Changzhou Metro. The new "Facial Boarding" feature allows passengers to facilitate subway access for others using their own accounts, even when they are not physically present.
This innovative functionality, unveiled on April 26, builds upon the existing "Travel Companions" function introduced last May. Originally designed to assist passengers without smartphones or the ability to download the Changzhou Metro app, the "Travel Companions" function enabled users to generate a "Companion Code" for non-app users to pass through the gates.
With the addition of "Facial Boarding," passengers can now register their travel companions' facial data within the Changzhou Metro app. For example, take 62-year-old Ms. Zhang, who regularly accompanies her granddaughter to and from school by metro. Previously reliant on her son to facilitate gate access using the "Companion Code," Zhang's son can now register her and her granddaughter's facial profiles on his smartphone. As a result, they can navigate the metro independently through facial recognition, without the need for physical supervision.
Changzhou Metro emphasizes that users must first activate the "Companion Code" before enabling the "Facial Boarding" feature. Additionally, individuals registering for this service must have their identification details on record with the public security authority.
"Facial Boarding" supports up to two registered companions per ride and cannot be altered once configured. Each Changzhou Metro app account can accommodate up to three individuals, including the main account holder. Should the main account holder deactivate the facial recognition feature, registered companions will be unable to utilize "Facial Boarding" for metro access. This feature only supports Longxing Pay and China Construction Bank (CCB) Digital Currency payment channels.
Furthermore, registered travel companions must remember the main account holder's phone number. In case of any issues with entering or exiting the station, metro staff will handle passenger inquiries based on the main account number.
