It was learned on August 14th that the retail sales of consumer goods in Changzhou achieved 88.19 billion yuan in the first half of 2014, a year-on-year growth of 13%. The increase is 0.1 percentage point higher than that of the same period last year, and is 0.4 percentage point higher than the average growth rate of Jiangsu Province, rising to the 3rd place in Jiangsu.
Among the four major industries of wholesale, retail, hotel and catering, the retail industry takes over 80% of the sales of consumer goods and is acting as the main force of market growth. From January to June, the retail sales reached 72.58 billion yuan, up 8.2%, of which office supplies, furniture, and sports and entertainment supplies enjoyed increase of 47.6%, 41.6% and 32.5% respectively.
The retail sales of automobile is another highlight. It has maintained a rapid growth since this February. The above-quota retail sales of automobile reached 16.183 billion yuan in the first half of 2014, up 22.0%, playing a major role in driving the economic growth in Changzhou.
