Changzhou will mark its sixth year participating in Earth Hour 2014 on Saturday, March 19, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., during which the city will turn off the outdoor lights of more than 400 buildings in urban area and the LED displays for PSAs at Xinlong Building, Longcheng Blvd., etc.

The municipality also encourages citizens to participate in the activity by turning off their lights  from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide, and the one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now larger movement.

China’s Earth Hour theme is the Blue Sky Project this year, responding to the currently most urgent environmental issue of the country - haze.
