According to the latest report issued by Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Statistics, by the end of 2015, Changzhou’s total resident population was 4.701 million, of which the employed population was 2.81 million. The urban employed population was 1.941 million, an increase of 41,000 over the previous year, up 2.2%.

The distribution of employed population in the three industries was slightly adjusted. The primary industry involved 307,000 employed population,accounting for 10.9%, decreased by 0.1%; the secondary industry engaged 1.435 million employed population, accounting for 51.1%, dropped by 0.8%; and the tertiary industry had 1.068 million employed population, accounting for 38%, up 0.9%.

Meanwhile, the aging population remained a growing cause for concern. By the end of 2015, the number of children aged 0-14 years in the population was 529,000, accounting for 11.26%; the number of working-age people between the ages 15 to 64 was 362.5 million, accounting for 77.1%; and the number of seniors aged 65 and over was 544,000, accounting for 11.64%.

Compared with 2014, the proportion of children and seniors increased by 0.06% and 0.5% respectively, while the proportion of working-age people decreased by 0.55%.
