During the Spring Festival holiday, Changzhou experienced notable increases in passenger volumes, particularly in air travel, which saw a significant uptick, setting a record for the highest daily passenger throughput on February 15th.
From February 10th to 17th, Changzhou Airport handled a total of 118,000 passengers, reflecting a 59 percent surge compared to the Spring Festival in 2023.
A distinct trend during this holiday is the cross-country travel phenomenon, where individuals from southern regions venture northward in pursuit of ice and snow, while northerners seek refuge from the cold by heading south to warmer climates. Popular destinations include Harbin, Changchun, and Shenyang for southern residents, and Sanya, Haikou, Kunming, and Xiamen for northern residents. Additionally, flights to Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Xishuangbanna continued to operate at high passenger capacity, while Thailand and Macao remained popular destinations for outbound tourism.
Throughout the Spring Festival holiday, Changzhou Railway Station sent a total of 318,000 passengers, averaging nearly 40,000 passengers per day. Since the beginning of the Spring Festival travel season, as of February 17th, Changzhou Railway Station has sent a total of 1.012 million passengers, averaging 44,000 passengers per day.
In terms of self-driving travel, during the Spring Festival holiday, the daily traffic volume on sections of highways under the jurisdiction of Changzhou reached 107,100 vehicles, a 38 percent increase compared to the previous year's Spring Festival. The peak traffic volume occurred on February 17th, reaching 147,800 vehicles.
Regarding urban transportation, due to the incentives of free bus transportation during this year's Spring Festival, there was a significant surge in bus passenger volume compared to the same period last year, reaching 2.2557 million passengers, a 239.33 percent increase compared to the Spring Festival holiday in 2023. Additionally, taxi services transported 1.2987 million passengers, averaging 162,300 passengers per day; public bicycle rentals totaled 147,466, with an average of 18,433 rentals per day; and metro ridership reached 1.0516 million passengers, averaging 131,500 passengers per day.
