China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. has announced that the South Riverside Intercity Railway in Jiangsu, which began construction in 2018, has been officially renamed as the Shanghai-Nanjing Riverside High-Speed Railway.
The highly anticipated rail line spans 278.53 kilometers (173.1 miles) in length, boasting a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour (220 mph), and is set to open later this year.
Traversing through the heart of Jiangsu province, the Shanghai-Nanjing Riverside High-Speed Railway starts from Nanjing South and connects the bustling districts and counties of Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Taicang.
This new addition to the rail network will be the second intercity railway line linking Shanghai and Nanjing, playing a crucial role in facilitating intercity passenger flow between the major cities and adjacent districts and counties. Additionally, the railway will further strengthen the integration of the districts and counties around the railway stations into the "one-hour high-speed railway circle" of Shanghai and Nanjing.
