Mayor Sheng Lei had a virtual meeting with Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Novelis Inc., on April 28.
Sheng Lei noted in her speech that Changzhou is home to the facilities of many well-established auto parts suppliers at home and abroad, such as Novelis, ThyssenKrupp, HOERBIGER, LEONI, Sumitomo Electric, and Xingyu Automotive Lighting System.
She pointed out that Novelis—the global leader in flat-rolled aluminum products—has injected new impetus into the city’s new energy vehicles (NEV) sector with its Changzhou facility.
Sheng stated that Changzhou will sustain the balance it has achieved between epidemic control and economic development, and support Novelis’ development in Changzhou as always.
Steve Fisher said that Novelis is a leading sustainable aluminum solutions provider and a world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling. Going forward, the corporation will bring more new ideas and technologies to China to help the country achieve peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality.
In June 2012, Novelis established its Chinese production center in Changzhou. So far, the corporation has invested a total of 390 million US dollars in the city. In 2021, the Changzhou facility’s output value exceeded 3.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 78 percent.
